That doesn't really hurt the developer which hasn't probably existed in years.However I get all my VST instruments and sample librares legally.

Making them costs money and effort so by pirating them you're stealing. If you can't afford something there are tons of free plugins and instruments available that will do the job well (more so synths than sampled real instruments). What do you already own (cracked or otherwise)?You're gonna need a basic set of tools.

That's EQ, Compression/Limiting, Delays, Reverbs, Modulation effects, perhaps some Tuning and Timing software.If your DAW doesn't already have good enough plugins to get started, I'd recommend the Waves Gold bundle. It can be had for about $200 or less when it's on sale. And Waves has sales all year long, almost every month, so just be patient.Your budget is really going to dictate the quality of software you can pick up. I'm not a huge plugin-subscription fan, but the Slate deal is pretty solid.

But a rent-to-own option would be better. I believe Sonnox does something like that. And they're a grade-A company. Softube might do the same.

Again, they're a top of the line company. They all offer some freebies as well.If you want more free stuff, I would recommend the Blue Cat audio's lineup. Melda productions has a GREAT free plugin bundle with all you'd ever need for a hobby studio. Tokyo Dawn Labs makes PHENOMENAL plugins. Kotelnikov has great stuff. Just remember, free doesn't translate to low-quality. I could make a radio-ready hit with any of the free stuff.

You assume the product sucks, and that must be why it was so easy to crack. So you just throw it out and search for the next magic-maker. But there's no magic in this art.It's the people who buy their software (or anything else) that learn how to use it. There's a certain guilt associated with wasting your money. So you're more inclined to figure out what you were doing wrong. You might read the manual. You might go on YouTube seeking out tutorials.

But you don't throw it away, because you paid for it.I promise you that if you pay for a DAW, a virtual instrument or a plugin that you will appreciate it. It will feel right.

And you'll at least attempt to make the most out of it before giving up on it.Without wasting too much more time, I'll tell you a quick story: I used to pirate everything. I never finished a project or got paid for anything because I was a hack. I was looking for Magic-Software. Special presets, Secret-Frequencies, you name it.But it wasn't until I bought my Macbook Pro, I bought Logic Pro X, I bought my outboard gear and I bought my own plugins that I was finally able to take myself seriously enough to learn the trade. I no longer felt like an outsider. And today, I'm one of the best engineers I know. That's because I stopped stealing.I'm not gonna be a hypocrite and ride my moral high-horse here, because I've done it myself.

But let me ask you this: Do you like the software you're using?Because if you do, then you're making a it a lot harder to encourage programmers to keep working for free. Personally, I wouldn't want to program plugins if I knew they were gonna be given away for free.
